FILLING THE BATTERY WITH ELECTROLYTE
~ Remove the battery from packaging and place on a level stable surface
~ Use only the electrolyte provided with the battery
~ Remove the sealing strip from the top of battery
~ Remove packaging and caps from the electrolyte pack.
DO NOT pierce the seals on
the feeders
~ Invert the electrolyte pack and align the feeders into the filler ports in the
battery
~ Press firmly down on the electrolyte pack until the seals break - the electrolyte
should flow into the battery and bubbles of air should rise into the electrolyte
pack.
DO NOT tilt the electrolyte container
~ Leave the electrolyte pack in this position for at least 20 minutes, to allow
all electrolyte to pass into the battery
If bubbles do not appear in the electrolyte
pack, gently tap the bottom of the pack 2 or 3 times to start the flow. DO NOT remove
the pack from the battery
~ When the pack is completely empty of electrolyte, slowly pull the pack away from
the battery
There will be no electrolyte visible in the battery, all electrolyte
will have been absorbed into the battery separators and plates
~ Place the cap strip securely into the filler ports. Ensure the cap strip is inserted
fully and flush with the battery top The battery is now activated and ready to charge.
Never attempt to remove the cap strip or add water or electrolyte to the battery
CHARGING THE BATTERY
This is a sealed maintenance free construction battery, this means:
~ Water must never be added
~ It must be charged with a 12Volt 1Amp motorcycle battery charger, at the correct
rate to suit the specific battery model as indicated below.
If the battery becomes
very hot during charging, stop charging and allow the battery to cool
~ Add the electrolyte and seal the battery as described above
~ Place the battery on a level stable surface
~ Using a 12V 1Amp motorcycle charger, charge the battery for the following times
Using a 1 amp charger*
YTX4 - 2 hours YTX5 - 2.5 hours
YTX7 - 3.5 hours
YTX9 - 4.5 hours YTX12 - 12 hours
YTX14 - 14 hours
YTX16 - 16 hours YTX20 - 20 hours
*Charging rates shown are recommended for the first initial charge. Charging rates
will vary depending on charger type used. Use of a taper or trickle charger may
require a longer charging time
~ After charging time has elapsed, remove the charger and allow the battery to sit
for 2 hours
~ Check the open circuit voltage of the battery, it should be a minimum of 12.8v
to 13.0v. If the voltage is less than 12.8 volts, repeat the charging cycle.
~ When voltage is 12.8 volts or more, it is ready to install onto motorcycle

BATTERY MAINTENANCE
Periodic battery maintenance should be performed even when there is no motorcycle
starting problem. The following simple procedures will help prevent premature battery
failure.
~ Keep battery clean of all dirt, especially around terminals
~ If motorcycle is not in frequent use, additional charging WILL be required.
~ Charging rates will vary depending on…
- Battery’s electrical capacity
- Battery’s state of charge at start
of charging
- Battery’s age and condition
- Type of charger
KEEP THE BATTERY AT 100% STATE OF CHARGE
